According to Hulu, “Mike,” is an 8-episode limited series that “explores the tumultuous ups and downs of Tyson’s boxing career and personal life – from being a beloved global athlete to a pariah and back again.… ‘Mike’ is an unauthorized and no-holds-barred look at the life of Mike Tyson – and it is one wild ride.” Trevante Rhodes stars as the titular boxer in the series, which is supposed to debut later this month.
Though the famously hard-hitting champ has always shown formidable skills in the ring, he’s been training for the Paul fight with a little extra help from Tool singer Maynard James Keenan. The rocker posted pics with Tyson, who he said has been getting in shape working out at his Cottonwood, AZ Verde Valley BJJ martial arts school; Keenan, who co-founded the gym, earned his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in January.
In July 2020, Mike Tyson announced the creation of Mike Tyson’s Legends Only League. Tyson formed the league in partnership with Sophie Watts and her company, Eros Innovations. The league provides retired professional athletes the opportunity to compete in their respective sport. On November 28, 2020, Mike Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr. at the Staples Center in the first event produced under Legends Only League. The event received largely positive reviews and was the highest selling PPV event of 2020, which ranks in the top rank boxing boxers-10 for PPV purchased events all-time.

Entertainment Tonight later followed up the interview with a statement from a rep for Mike, saying, “My life rights option expired years ago. Hulu nor any of their supercilious team ever tried to engage in any negotiations with this Black man.”
In a series of statements posted on his social media accounts Saturday, the famous boxer aired out the company for allegedly producing the biographical series without his approval and not providing compensation.

Hulu’s Mike stars Moonlight breakout Trevante Rhodes as Mike Tyson and is described as an unfiltered and unbiased exploration of the boxer’s controversial life. Mike comes from the same team as I, Tonya, with Margot Robbie serving as an executive producer. Interestingly, neither Hulu nor the showrunners have hidden the fact that Mike is an unauthorized biopic, arguing that’s exactly why everyone should watch it. Although they maintain that Mike is not trying to villainize the former boxer and will leave it up to the viewers to decide what to think of Tyson. In 2015, Zhang was signed to Roc Nation Sports, which Dino Duva also joined as an employee and boxing executive. Roc Nation, a music promoter, entered the boxing market in August 2014 with money but no plan. David Itskowitch, Roc Nation’s founding chief operating officer of boxing, abruptly resigned in July 2016 and Duva’s influence grew after. Roc Nation’s boxing division was in quick decline from 2018, all but ceased working in 2019 and closed down in 2020.
Years have passed since Mike Tyson last entered the ring! However, he seems ready to do it again against 27-year-old Jake Paul. In a 2014 interview with Donald McRae of The Guardian, Mike Tyson was in a dark time in his life when he got his famous tattoo. “I just hated myself then,” Tyson told McRae. “I literally wanted to deface myself.” He said he wanted his whole face done, but the tattoo artist told him he had a nice face and refused.

The biggest part of this story isn’t Paul or Tyson. It’s that Netflix is streaming this fight live internationally without an added paywall. Paul vs. Tyson will be the third sporting event Netflix has hosted and streamed. There is surely more to come, and not just with Netflix’s big rights deal with WWE for the Raw television show in the United States and the wrestling promotion’s full slate of offerings being available on the streaming giant worldwide.
